Soxtober, Oct 28

The play-offs which followed the White Sox's winning season took place in what the networks dubbed 'Soxtober'.  Two days after they clinched the World Series, six double-decker buses transported the team through neighbourhoods adjoining US Cellular Field to a downtown ticker-tape parade, where Mike and I watched from LaSalle Street.  Fighter jets roared overhead to announce the start of the rally.  The players went on stage and took turns addressing the crowd, as did Mayor Daley (a lifelong Sox fan), Ozzie Guillen (the first Latino manager to win the World Series) and team owner Jerry Reinsdorf.  The rally ended with fireworks and Steve Perry of the band Journey singing Don't Stop Believin', the song which the team said had inspired them.
