The
Deep South, Dec 26-28

From
Pensacola to Mobile to New Orleans we sure packed a lot into a few days, the
purpose of our trip being Aunt Doris's Hawaiian-themed birthday party.

I
was ready for the party to start, in grass skirt and lei.

Dan,
Joe and Patt soon got into the swing of things.

The
band took a break while Doris's grandchildren performed their self-penned song.

Happy
80th Birthday, Aunt Doris!

Hula
girls - and Graham.

Outside
to watch the sun set over
lovely Weeks Bay.

Mitch,
Penny and David continued to party in the kitchen.

More
cousins,
Leah and Pam.

The
swaying Santa was endless fun!

Patt
tried in vain to teach Mike the words to a Jimmy Buffett song.

The
'Cooking Committee' whipped us up some gumbo.

Pelicans
on the bay.

What
a lovely way to start the day!

Enjoying
a coffee and the sunshine before heading off to the Big Easy.

I
momentarily joined those
waiting in line for Dixieland jazz at Preservation Hall.

The
famous Bourbon
Street on a Saturday night.

A
steamboat on the Mississippi River.

St
Louis Cathedral and Andrew Jackson memorial.

Très
Parisien! - it is the French Quarter, after all.

Horse-drawn
carriages and typical New Orleans balconies.

Beautiful Jackson Square.

A
jazz band plays on Rue Royal.

The
Charles Avenue streetcar took us past grand homes to Carollton for lunch.

The
entrance to Leah's apartment in the Warehouse District.
